Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Split? He Confirms Couple Is Living Apart

Nick Cannon has confirmed that he and Mariah Carey are living apart from each other. He made the confirmation after the speculation of the couple’s split and possible divorce reached epic levels, with TMZ claiming a divorce was in the works.

Yes, after months of speculation and rumors — and the usual frantic search for a reason for a split — along came a report from TMZ claiming the “divorce is a done deal.”

The couple has not yet released a joint statement nor made any announcements in social media. However, Nick Cannon spoke out exclusively to The Insider with Yahoo. He is quoted as saying “There is trouble in paradise. We have been living in separate houses for a few months.” The celebrity news outlet notes that he denied infidelity as the cause and, in fact, he did not specify a cause. He is quoted as saying, “My main focus is my kids.”

The 33-year-old Nick Cannon and the 44-year-old Mariah Carey got married in 2008 after dating for just a couple of months. Both the proverbial whirlwind romance and the 15-year age difference between the two had always fueled discussion, and quite frankly speculation and, indeed predictions that the couple would split. Nick Cannon was still in his late 20s when he married the music superstar diva, and much was also made of the disparity of their levels of professional achievement, leading, in fact to some of the typical derision in such cases. All of it served to point out our still-existing and unfortunate double standards in society.

But years went by and the couple became parents of twins, Moroccan and Monroe born in 2011. However, in recent months they had not made any public appearances together. They had also, very noticeably not renewed their wedding vows this year as they have in every other year since tying the knot.

There was speculation that his extremely candid — indeed graphic — radio interview in May was the tipping point as he named several women with whom he had had sex including Kim Kardashian. But this is just the typical outsiders-looking-in and trying to find reasons. Who knows? We can’t really know, but of course it never puts a stop to the speculation, does it?
