Amy Van Dyken Injured Olympian Takes Her First Steps!

amy van dyken & her husbandI know we already had our “feel good video” of the day, but I couldn’t resist posting this one as well. Did you hear about Amy Van Dyken’s terrible accident, where she injured her spinal cord? It left her partially paralyzed. Well, Amy, who won SIX gold medals at the Olympics in 1996 and 2000, clearly has applied that Olympic will to her recovery. She posted videos to her Instagram page showing her taking her first steps! RELATED: Here’s another feel good video: what’s your definition of success?

Amy was aided by an exoskeleton around her legs and a walker, but she DID IT! She stood up for the first time in two-and-a-half months.

Then Amy went for a little stroll. The caption for this video was:

Here it is…I’m WALKING!!! #onestepatatime #itcouldhappen

GO Amy! Look at her walk. Is there any better way to kick off the weekend than to watch these videos? I can’t think of one. She’s still an inspiration, more than a decade after competing in the Olympics. LOVE the picture of her victorious kiss with her husband, Tom Rouen. These are just the first steps of many.

Amy’s amazing progress just goes to show what a positive attitude, commitment, and willingness to work hard can do :).
