Uh-oh. Recently it was announced that Julianne Hough would be joining ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as a fourth judge. Apparently at least one of the pros, Karina Smirnoff, isn’t too happy about the decision. She’s openly questioning the ethics of Julianne returning to the show as a judge. RELATED: It’s official! Julianne Hough is returning to ‘DWTS’ as a judge.
Karina told Us Weekly:
I think she is a great girl, I’ve known her for many years,” Smirnoff, 36, told Us of Julianne. “I think that she is wonderful, gorgeous, and talented, but I don’t know if it’s ethical that she is judging while her brother is competing.
“I may be the most fair person in the world, but if my mom is dancing and she trips, I would be like, ‘Well, I didn’t see that…’” Smirnoff continued to Us. “That is my mother, and I will go stand by her side and support her regardless. Do I think it’s fair? No. But it is a TV show. That is what we have to remember. It’s not necessarily the Bible, it’s just a TV show.”
Are there ethics in reality TV shows, even the competitions? Derek Hough has won more seasons than any other pro on the show, I think, so he’s already proven himself. This could be a subtle way of Karina putting the pressure on Julianne to judge her brother more harshly in an effort to prove she’s impartial. That could backfire- badly- for Karina. Who knows? I guess it’s fair for Karina to point it out.
