Last week we learned the unfortunate news that Usher‘s 11-year old stepson Kyle Glover had been diagnosed as brain dead after a horrific jet ski accident. Later it was confirmed that Usher‘s family friend Jeffrey S. Hubbard was riding the jet ski when it happened; he’s currently under investigation. I was hoping that Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster (Kyle‘s mother) would support each other during this difficult time, and it sounds like Usher is trying to do what he can to make Tameka‘s life a little easier. After a difficult and emotional custody battle over their two sons, Usher is reportedly making moves to settle the case with a new proposal that works in Tameka‘s favor. Details inside.

Usher and Foster’s divorce was finalized in 2009 after two years of marriage, but the former couple’s battle over custody and child support of their two sons, Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviyd, 3, has continued to wage on. According to TMZ, Usher had spoken with Foster over the weekend, offering a slight increase in child support but refusing to budge on his 50/50 custody demand.
Now, the R&B singer has apparently changed his tune. TMZ reports that Usher met with his lawyers earlier this week to draft a new proposal, which would give Foster “a majority” of custody and a “significant” increase in child support. The offer has not yet been presented to Foster.
Usher is said to be aware of Foster’s suffering and does not believe it is a good idea to continue to fight given the tragic circumstances.
The news comes just one month after Usher’s seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
“We know God’s in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time,” Glover’s family said in a statement to CNN. “We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it’s the best way we can all support him now.”

I think this is good news, in light of a tragic situation. And if I can get a little preachy here, I wish more people would consider this story in their own custody battles or any other family/child-related drama. It’s so easy to tear somebody apart when you’re hurt or embarrassed following the end of a relationship; but it’s a sign of strength if you can still be good to the person who hurt you. None of us know the intimate details of Usher and Tameka‘s relationship, but they clearly loved each other at some point and it’s good to see them embracing the positive attributes of their former relationship. More of that (for all of us) please!
