Box Office: "Ice Age: Continental Drift" Nudges Atop "The Amazing Spider-Man"

Delivering another solid performance for the animated genre, "Ice Age: Continental Drift" is positioned to become the third such film to garner the box office crown over the past five weeks.

While it hasn't posted as impressive numbers as predecessors "Brave" ($66.3 million) and "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" ($60.3 million), the Twentieth Century Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios tale about Manny, Diego, and Sid's adventures took in approximately $15 million on Friday (July 13) while pacing towards an opening weekend total of $42 million.

Finding itself bumped down a position after spending one weekend atop the movie world, the Andrew Garfield/Emma Stone starring Marvel picture "The Amazing Spider-Man" sits in the runner-up spot with an estimated $11 million on Friday and a predicted $34 million second go-round grab.

Filling out the top five at the box office in expected totals are Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis' talking teddy bear film "Ted" ($19.5 million) and Pixar/Disney's "Brave" ($10.5 million), while fifth place honors are up for grabs with the Channing Tatum fronted male stripper flick "Magic Mike" and Oliver Stone's Mexican drug cartel tale "Savages" too close to call at roughly $8.5 million apiece.
