Selena Gomez has premiered the music video for ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants,’ widely speculated to be about Justin Bieber. In the stark, black-and-white emotionally raw video, the pop music star cries and talks about a relationship and then is seen in the company of a man who very strongly resembles her fellow pop music star and on-again-off-again boyfriend.
Selena Gomez has most recently made the news for her appearance in the William H. Macy-directed ‘Ruderless’ alongside costar Billy Crudup as well as for her apparent on again off again relationship with Justin Bieber, at least as far as it has been documented on occasion by paparazzi photos.
Now she is telling a story on her own terms in the music video, and seemingly leaving little to speculation. While certainly the male character she speaks of could be fictitious, we’re giving more than enough hints to know that’s not so likely.
She is very much the actress here in this clip, as she is seen alone in a backstage dressing room, and speaking about an unnamed man. In words which by now are already memorized by fans, she says, “I felt like I know him, I know his heart, and I know what he wouldn’t do to hurt me.” s
She is crying as she continues, and one almost feels like an eavesdropper on a private conversation. She says, “I didn’t realize that feeling so confident, feeling so great about myself and it just be completely shattered by one thing. By something so stupid. You make me feel crazy, you make feel like it’s my fault. I was in pain.”
If we needed any more hints of a reality based drama, as Selena Gomez leaves the dressing room and puts on her public persona she is in the company of her love interest in the video who, as mentioned, bears a strong — we do mean very strong — resemblance to Justin Bieber.
The song is melancholic and heartbreaking much like we can imagine the real life romance has been for the two people involved, even as it has fueled many a story in tabloids and in social media.
These lines from the lyrics, in particular, are poignant and sad: “The future that we hold is so unclear / but I’m not alive until you call.” And later, “There’s a million reasons why I should give you up / but the heart wants what it wants.”
The music video for this explosive and raw song debuted early in the morning and quickly went viral. You can watch Selena Gomez in ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ it in its entirety below.
