Taylor Swift took over The Late Show with David Letterman’ with her interview and performance of a new song, ‘Welcome to New York.’ It’s all part of the massive fanfare for her pop music album, ’1989′ as the country-pop star is in the midst of her coronation as a full fledged pop music star.
Taylor Swift is everywhere with her new pop music album, ’1989.’ As New Yorkers have probably learned, she is also one of their transplanted residents, having moved to TribBeCa last year. She has now been named New York City’s Global Welcome Ambassador … yes, whether we needed one or not. While some might think she’s a Nashville resident, still, she aims to prove otherwise.
Yes, New York figured into her appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. The famed Ed Sullivan Theater is, after all, an iconic landmark in Manhattan and, as seen in the photos above and below, Taylor Swift was out in full force, surrounded by legions of fans.
In the studio, along with performing her song ‘Welcome to New York’ — an ode to the city, as searing and direct as any of her breakup songs — she sat for the expected and lively interview with the eponymous host.
For those who wondered how suddenly Taylor Swift has been enshrined an icon of New York City she explained, “When I love something, I’m very, very vocal about it. Any time I talk to anyone or any time I do an interview, I’m like, ‘You don’t understand. You have to go there now.”
The “there” she refers to, of course, is the Big Apple which she has now suddenly discovered.
Taylor Swift continued, saying, “You have to go to New York. Just drop what you’re doing, and go there. It’s amazing. It’s the greatest place ever.’ And I guess the city picked up on that. They’re like, ‘She’s the most enthusiastic, obnoxious person to ever love New York. She loves it with like 18 exclamation points afterward, underlined.’”
No taxpayer dollars or private funds were involved in this, as she was quick to explain. She said, “I don’t get any money for it.” She added, “I’d been obsessing over moving to New York for a year but I didn’t find the perfect place until winter last year. So, I’ve been there ever since and I had the most amazing summer here. All my friends are here!”
One of those friends, just happens to be across the bridge in Brooklyn. One Lena Dunham of ‘Girls’ fame. Taylor Swift said they became friends through Twitter. “She direct messaged me and she said, ‘We need to be best friends. I feel like you’ve been my best friend in my head for months and almost year now, so I need to see you in person and I will lavish you with compliments in person.’ And she did do that. And we’ve been best friends ever since.”
