Morrissey has cancelled the rest of his U.S. tour. The former Smiths singer had reschedule a number of shows due to a virus that he contracted back in May, but now all of the shows are off for good.
In a press statement, Morrissey’s spokesperson wrote: “In the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted. Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates.”
The fanzine True To You accused Moz’s opener Kristeen Young of passing a “horrendous cold” to the famed singer back in May. The site said that she was asked to take a break from the tour. Young denied the accusations, saying that she never had a cold, only an allergy attack that lasted less than 16 hours.
According to Young, an allergy specialist prescribed medication, which worked, but that Morrissey’s management ultimately asked her to leave the tour entirely.
“I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well,” Young said. “But I will not tolerate these lies…particularly about my health. This is really too much and bizarre.”
Morrissey’s U.S. tour began on May 7 in San Jose, CA. He’s been on the road since then, supporting his upcoming album World Peace Is None Of Your Business, which will be released July 15. His last show was to be on June 21 at New York City’s Barclays Center. Morrissey rescheduled shows in Atlantic City, Baltimore and Washington, but those have all been cancelled.
