Trent Reznor Is Bringing Nine Inch Nails Back To Life

trent reznor la 12 10 12 Trent Reznor Is Bringing Nine Inch Nails Back To Life

If you’ll recall, four years ago, Trent Reznor retired his band that you may have heard of, Nine Inch Nails, with a series of lauded live shows known as the Wave Goodbye tour.  On said tour, fans could thrill as they watched the band play two decades worth of hits and deep cuts, and Reznor and company bid their fans farewell.  Well, all of those meaningful moments are kind of empty now, as the band’s inevitable reunion is already happening.

That’s right—four scant years after retiring, Nine Inch Nails is being rebuilt from the ground up by Reznor, who has nabbed some genuinely hotshot musicians—King Crimson’s Adrian Belew, Jane’s Addiction’s Eric Avery, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis, and Ilan Rubin and Alessandro Cortini.  Together, they are the new Nine Inch Nails (which has always been a revolving door collective of musicians who coalesce around Reznor), and will be touring throughout 2013 and 2014.  Take from Trent himself:

Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.

I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.

Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.

As Pitchfork notes, Reznor is currently working with his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross, and Rob Sheridan in the band How to Destroy Angels, whose first full-length album is set for  March 5th release.
