Kim Delaney Leaving ‘Army Wives’

Longtime actress Kim Delaney is leaving Lifetime’s ‘Army Wives’ where she has played the regular role of Claudia Joy Holden since the show first debuted back in 2007 on the women’s network.

Executive producer Jeff Melvoin officially revealed the news, confirming the rumors that had fans of the drama buzzing over.  Moving into its seven season, Melvoin shared that Delaney will be making her exit before the new year airs in a shocking storyline involving her beloved character.

“The first two [episodes] will be very emotional, and it will confirm that Claudia Joy is no longer among the living,” Melvoin dished to TV Line.  Adding,  “Who survives the cliffhanger and who doesn’t is going to provide a lot of the juice of the first two hours.”The ‘Army Wives’ EP also noted how difficult it has been for the writer’s room to plot out such a storyline involving Delaney.  “It’s been very wrenching for us to write, and I think it will be very wrenching for the audience to go through.”

As for how the series will be now that the actress has decided to leave, Melvoin sounded optimistic about pushing the show forward even though the Lifetime series will be losing such a vital character.  “Kim and Claudia Joy have been the rock upon which we based the show. But we [have to] continue to move forward and keep the show fresh and unpredictable.”

While fans may be losing Kim Delaney there is the uplifting news of the return of actress Sally Pressman who plays Roxy in the series.  Away due to her pregnancy, Pressman is slated to make a comeback in the first couple of episodes.  “Sally, just like Kim, has been a huge part of the show’s success,” Melvoin divulged.  Unfortunately she will not be on board as a series regular.

Tell us what you think Army fans.  Will the show be able to move on without Delaney?
