Morrissey doesn’t like aging, and he believes he’s “aged a lot recently”. So, in lieu of that, the singer announced that he’ll be retiring from music in two years, at age 55. In a recent interview with the Malaysian culture website JuiceOnline, Morrissey said he plans to stop working in 2014.
The former Smiths frontman is shocked that he’s gone on as long as he has. Mainly he’s expressed concern towards aging, which he says, causes him distress.
“This is my 30th year, and I’ve aged a lot recently, which is bit distressing for me, as it must be for everyone. The body changed shape and there’s nothing you do about it. Do I continue as a modern day Andy Williams? I take one hour at a time.”
Morrissey started his career in 1982 with The Smiths. In 1989, he broke out and went solo. Since then, he’s released a total of nine studio albums and 38 hit singles.
Recently, the singer has been touring Asia and it seems he’s having a grand time. He wrote in a blog post that he has never experienced, in his life, a crowd like the one he has in Jakarta. He also called Japan “the most finely perceptive culture” with a “civility unlike anywhere else on Earth.”
If Morrissey sticks to his word and does retire in 2014, then his live shows are a must. If you haven’t seen him in concert yet, and you’re a fan, you better get to it. His European tour will end July 28 in Manchester, UK.
What do you think? Will you miss Morrissey once he retires?
