Lily Allen opened up about the stillbirth of her son in 2010 in an emotional interview on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show.’ The British pop music star was tearful as she spoke of the painful experience and how she has coped with it.
The 29-year-old Lily Allen returned to the music scene with a new album, Sheezus,’ a blazing and biting indictment of the overly sexualized pop music scene, with a title that she described as a “nod” to Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus.’ During her absence she gave birth to two children — daughters Ethel and Marnie — and focused on family life with her husband Sam Cooper.
Now in a candid, revealing and emotional interview, the headline-making and always intriguing firebrand reveals the emotional pain she suffered when she had a stillborn several years ago. She opened up during an appearance on the UK late-night talk show.
As Jonathan Ross noted that she suffered her loss in the public eye, she replied, “I think it’s difficult for anybody, regardless of what world they live in.”
She went on to say, “What I took home from that experience, even though it was the most unfortunate thing that can ever happen to a person, I was very fortunate in the sense that I have a loving partner that I can go home to and share that experience with.”
She added, “There are many women — 17 stillbirths in the UK every day — that go home, and they don’t have that support. They have to go home and deal with that on their own.”
Reflecting upon the loss, Lily Allen said, “Since that I happened, I kind of count my blessings rather than feeling sorry for myself.”
She went on to speak of the desire to have more children, saying, “I’d love a boy.’ Interjecting some levity into what had been such an emotionally wrenching discussion, she added, “And I’d also like another girl just so I can call her Auxiliary Jane… or Pizza, I quite like Pizza for a kid, or Mega Lolz that would be good. Megan Lolz.”
Lily Allen also drew notice for her elegant gold dress and her newly blond hair which she wore in a 1960s style updo. But foremost she has made a lingering impression with her bravery in sharing her emotional pain and how she has been able to move forward.
