Melissa McCarthy might be one of the funniest ladies to hit the big screen in a long time, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have her critics. Last year, when her movie ‘Identity Thief‘ hit theatres, movie critic Rex Reed made some particularly disturbing comments about the actress, calling her ‘tractor sized’ and “a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.” Melissa had remained quiet about the comments until now, when she opened up to the New York Times.
Of the comments Melissa said;
“Really? Why would someone O.K. that?”
“I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that’s someone who’s in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs.”
I’m happy to hear that Melissa could put that comment in perspective and realize that it speaks more about the person who said it than it does about her. Melissa will be seen soon in the upcoming police comedy ‘The Heat’ with Sandra Bullock. Hopefully Rex Reed does us all a favour and skips this one.
