She may be part of a loving family on TV but Modern Family’s Ariel Winter may not have such a happy home life outside of the TV world. There are some serious allegations regarding the teen being abused by her mother and that she is looking to divorce her parents.
On the ABC hit sitcom brainy Alex Dunphy seems to have a fantastic, although sometimes kooky family in real life it turns out Winter comes from an abusive home. It has been confirmed that the 14-year old has been removed from her parents home after allegations that she was being abused by her mother. Last month at a hearing a judge determined that there was abuse going on in the home and guardianship of Ariel has been given to her older sister Shanelle Workman. A judge decided that the mother of the actress, Crystal Workman, was physically and emotionally abusing the teen and it was enough to warrant her removal from the home. In fact Workman is reportedly suppose to stay at least 100 yards away from her famous daughter. At this time there have not been any specific details about the abuse released and because she is a minor the court documents will not be released. Another hearing has been set for November 20th to review the situation and who will have permanent guardianship over Ariel.
TMZ is reporting that Shanelle too suffered the same abuse from Crystal nearly two decades ago. Department of Children and Family Services reportedly removed Shanelle from Crystal’s care and she was placed in foster care for two years. Ariel’s older sister never went back to the home of her mother. There is a 20 year age difference between the siblings but if Workman knows what her sister is going through then hopefully she will provide her with a safe haven. Side note some of you may recognize Shanelle from her acting gigs on One Life To Live and The Bold and The Beautiful. Yep it would seem acting runs in that family.
Many of you may have heard or read that the young actress was seeking emancipation from her parents because they did not approve of her 17-year old boyfriend. Sources have confirmed that is not actually true. Winter’s is looking at becoming emancipated but it does not have to do with her boyfriend. After hearing the latest news regarding her guardianship one can make the assumption she just wants to get out of her house. Seriously who could blame her it doesn’t sound like she has a safe or happy home life at all.
Modern Family’s Ariel Winter has been removed from her mothers home after allegations of abuse were confirmed. Here is hoping that Crystal is not allowed anywhere near her youngest child and that Ariel can have a safe and happy life off-screen. It just goes to show that just because someone plays a happy character on TV you never know what goes on in there personal lives. Keep your chin up Ariel and thank goodness for Shanelle.
