Former ‘American Idol’ judge Kara DioGuardi will become a mother for the first time with the help of a surrogate, People Magazine has shared. DioGuardi and her husband Mike McCuddy will welcome the birth of their son in the coming weeks and have also shared the baby’s name, Greyson James Carroll McCuddy.
The couple, who married back in 2009, have been very open about their struggles to conceive. DioGuardi has previously shared that they have tried several different avenues to get pregnant but all have failed, including three attempts at in vitro fertilization.
Recently opening up to People about choosing a surrogate, DioGuardi told the magazine that everything was finally working out for the couple. “We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate. I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked. We’re praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it’s as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she’s been a gem throughout the whole process.”
DioGuardi even chose to leave American Idol and its hectic shooting schedule behind. “I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV. Leaving was painful and there will always be a part of me that wanted to stay. But my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.” Now that the couple are gearing up to be parents for the first time they have reportedly sold their Studio City mansion.
As fans will remember, DioGuardi appeared in American Idol’s eighth and ninth seasons before leaving the Fox series behind. During her two year stint on the competition series, DioGuardi shared judging duties with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Ellen DeGeneres.
