Ke$ha Out For Vengeance In Musical March Madness
'I'm getting ready as we speak,' she tells MTV News of this year's tournament, tipping off Monday.
By James Montgomery
<P>Last year, based mainly on her attitude, the fact that she <a href="/news/articles/1644961/keha-tries-to-shock-the-world-at-casio-launch.jhtml">plays an AK-47 shaped guitar</a> and the presence of photos like <a href="http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2011/03/13/1226020/684522-ke-ha-drinks-blood.jpg" target="_blank">this</a>, Ke$ha was given an 11 seed in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament — and promptly <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/03/15/march-madness-u2-kesha-green-day-adam-lambert/">lost by a huge margin to U2</a> in the opening round. </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:747290/cp~vid%3D747290%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A747290" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>Of course, she's spent the past 12 months fuming over that early exit, and now, she's going to get her shot at redemption. Not only is Ke$ha <i>back</i> in the 2012 MMM tournament — which kicks off Monday — but she's beefed up her rock credentials: working with the likes of <a href="http://www.billboard.com/news/alice-cooper-welcomes-ke-ha-to-his-nightmare-1005326082.story#/news/alice-cooper-welcomes-ke-ha-to-his-nightmare-1005326082.story" target="_blank">Alice Cooper</a>, channeling the <a href="/news/articles/1663946/kesha-new-album.jhtml">"sexiness" of '70s rock</a> on her new album, recording a (genuinely pretty great) <a href="/news/articles/1676260/kesha-bob-dylan-cover.jhtml">cover of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"</a> and spending time <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/keshasuxx/status/160937170826313728" target="_blank">snorting Tums</a> with Wayne Coyne. </P><P> </P><P>So, yeah, this year, she's ready to knock off the field of 63 other acts gunning for the MMM trophy — a brimming bracket that includes <a href="/news/articles/1661353/musical-march-madness-winner-green-day.jhtml">defending champions Green Day</LINK>, upstarts <link type="content" id="1680595">Fun.</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1678693/black-keys-kesha.jhtml">good pals the Black Keys</a>, to name just a few — and reign supreme. But just in case all that rock-and-roll prep work isn't enough to put her over the top, well, Ke$ha has another secret weapon at the ready: an incredibly toned pelvic floor. </P><P> </P><P>"I'm getting ready as we speak. I'm doing Kegels," she told MTV News, while throwing phantom punches at an unsuspecting cameraman. "Vote for me!" </P><P> </P><P><b>MTV's 2012 Musical March Madness tournament begins Monday, March 12, when we'll unveil the full field of 64 bands that will battle for this year's championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it will be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, it's gonna be a war.</b> </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:746346/cp~vid%3D746346%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A746346" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER></p>

Conrad Murray Sentence 'Not Enough,' MJ Fans Say
But other Michael Jackson supporters outside L.A. courthouse tell MTV News 'justice has been served.'
By Katie Byrne, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf
<P><b>LOS ANGELES</b> — During the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, <a href="/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s fans have been as much a fixture at the courthouse as the <a href="/news/articles/1675068/conrad-murray-sentencing.jhtml">Jackson family</a>. When <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">Murray was sentenced to four years</a> in jail Tuesday (November 29), MTV News spoke with those loyal fans outside the court to see if the maximum sentence was an apt punishment. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="MIchael Jackson Fans React To Conrad Murray Sentence" id="vid:715142.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"Four years — not enough, but at least something," said one fan, sporting a red jacket in tribute to MJ. "And where I come from, a little something is always better than nothing." </P><P> </P><P>One pair of friends might have been wearing matching <i>Thriller</i> T-shirts, but their opinions on Murray's sentence certainly didn't match. "If four years is the maximum and he got the maximum — I know she's not happy, but I'm happy," one of the women said, gesturing to her less-than-pleased companion. "I feel like justice was served and that L.A. can now be proud and stand tall." </P><P> </P><P>"It's better than nothing, but it's not even close to justice," said another fan, wearing Jackson's trademark fedora and sequined glove. "Not only was [Murray] negligent; he let the man die. It's unconscionable. He didn't even try. How would a heart doctor not know how to give CPR? It's insane." </P><P> </P><P>The cardiologist, who was found guilty of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter November 7, was facing up to four years in state prison in the death of the pop icon, but due to recent changes to alleviate overcrowding in California prisons, the judge in the case said he was unable to send the doctor to state prison for his crime. On top of that, <a href="/news/articles/1675080/conrad-murray-sentence-four-years-experts.jhtml">legal expert Mike Cavalluzzi told MTV News</a> that Murray will likely serve less than half of his four-year sentence. </P><P> </P><P>Those legal loopholes concerned a female fan outside the courthouse, but she was also happy that the maximum punishment was doled out. </P><P> </P><P>"The only thing I'm worried about now, with the overcrowding of the jails, he might get one year and house arrest," she told MTV News. "I'm just hoping it'll be four years, that's what I'm praying. I'm just glad that justice has been served today, and I'm glad justice can be served to the family and to the fans, and everybody around today will be happy and celebrate that justice has been served. And I'm sure Michael's looking from heaven right now."</p>

News Roundup: Spoon Announces New Record, Tyler The Creator Release Music Video and More
This week, Spoon announced that they plan to release a new album later this year. The indie rock band even revealed a few tunes off the upcoming LP, titled They Want My Soul. More details below. Also, there’s a trailer for the HBO documentary Made In America, which is a behind-the-scenes look at Jay-Z’s Philadelphia music festival that happened last year. All that and more below.
- Spoon Announce New Record: Spoon has revealed plans to release a new studio album later this year. After a four-year break, the indie rock band plans to drop They Want My Soul on August 5 via Loma Vista. In an interview with NPR, Spoon shared four new songs, including a cover of Ann-Margaret’s “I Just Don’t Understand.” The new record was produced by Joe Chiccarelli and Dave Fridmann.
- “Fancy” Meets “Fancy”: Iggy Azalea‘s “Fancy” is still the No. 1 song on the charts, and unofficially, this summer’s tune. Someone decided to have a little fun with the rapper’s popular track and made a mashup video also including Reba McEntire’s “Fancy.” Check it out over at Soundcloud.
- Made In America Trailer: There’s no denying that Jay-Z is one of the best rappers alive. He knows how to throw words together like few people do, and he’s cool. “After great tragedy, creativity is born,” he says in the trailer for Made In America. The documentary, which is directed by Ron Howard, is a behind-the-scenes look at the music festival Jay-Z launched in Philadelphia last year. Featuring interviews with artists like Janelle Monae, Skrillex and Run D.M.C., Made In America appears to be more than just a look at the making of a music festival. The trailer is filled with inspiring quotes about the power of music. The film premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival last September, and Phase 4 Films is in charge of distribution. Made In America will hit theaters sometime this summer. Here’s the trailer:

Kristen Stewart Not On Board for “Snow White and the Huntsman” Sequel?!
She famously split up the marriage of her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders and it doesn’t look like Kristen Stewart will be returning for round two.
According to The Wrap, the “Twilight Saga: New Moon” babe isn’t expected to reprise her role and even if she does, it will only be a small cameo.
Meanwhile, Sanders is also steering clear of the project, as “Walking Dead” creator Frank Darabont has been tapped to man the helm.
On the positive side, both Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron have signed on for the sequel, slated to hit theaters in May 2016.
Zola Jesus Announces New Album With Trailer
Zola Jesus has announced plans to release a new album titled Taiga. The singer will released her fifth LP this October, which will be a followup to last year’s Versions, a collection of classical arrangements picked from 2011′s Conatus. There’s a short trailer announcing the new album below.
Traiga will be released through Sacred Bones Records. Though she didn’t offer a new song, Zola Jesus released a 50-second teaser trailer, directed by Kyle Hurley, that gives us a taste of what we can expect. The singer is experimenting with heavier sounds. Check it out:
In 2012 the singer revealed she was finding it stressful not being able to work on new material due to her touring commitments, saying:
“I’m starting to feel a little overwhelmed with ideas. It’s been getting a little stressful knowing I still have so much touring to do when I feel my ideas are starting to fill me up.”
There’s no word on a tour yet.

Are Madonna And Britney Spears Collaborating On MDNA?
Amid rumors that Spears will appear on Madge's 'Girls Gone Wild,' MTV News looks back at their history together.
By Jocelyn Vena
<P>Could it be that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> has enlisted her pal <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for <a href="/news/articles/1678197/madonna-mdna-album.jhtml"><i>MDNA</i></a>? </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears, Madonna Get In The Zone For 'Me Against The Music' Video" id="vid:623135.id:1657989" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Well, according to a leaked album jacket, it seems that Spears is making an appearance on the album's lead track, "Girls Gone Wild." </P><P> </P><P>This would mark the second collaboration on the album. Madonna nabbed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for the album's first single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin'."</a> </P><P>While the leaked jacket, which appeared on Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/britney-on-new-madonna-album/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, can't be confirmed as authentic, a rep for Madge had no comment about the rumor, neither confirming nor denying it. Meanwhile, a rep for Spears never returned MTV News' request for comment. </P><P> </P><P>This is hardly the first time that the two ladies have worked together. In fact, they have quite a history with each other. </P><P> </P><P>The duo kicked off their nearly decade-long friendship at the 2003 VMAs when, in case you hadn't heard, they <a href="/news/articles/1669706/britney-spears-mtv-vma-history.jhtml">shared an onstage kiss</a> while performing together. It was the kiss seen and heard around the world, and nearly 10 years later it is still often talked about as one of the most memorable moments in the show's storied history. </P><P> </P><P>After they shared that smooch, Spears was inspired to get the Queen of Pop on her lead <i>In the Zone</i> single, <a href="/news/articles/1658075/britney-spears-me-against-the-music.jhtml">"Me Against the Music."</a> "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled in a vintage interview with MTV. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' " </P><P> </P><P>They later appeared together in the warehouse-set video with one another, playing a pop star cat-and-mouse game that featured a near kiss. </P><P> </P><P>Five years later, as Spears was prepping her return to the pop spotlight, she appeared <a href="/news/articles/1598804/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-appear-onstage-with-madonna.jhtml">onstage with Madonna</a> during a Sticky & Sweet Tour stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The singer hit the stage with the pop icon to perform "Human Nature" by her side. </P><P> </P><P>That same year, Madonna appeared in <a href="/news/articles/1600361/britney-spears-talks-breakups-breakdowns-in-for-the-record.jhtml">Spears' documentary, "For the Record,"</a> where she spoke about the younger singer. "I admire her as an artist," the Material Girl said, adding that she sees a lot of herself in Spears. </P><P>In 2011, as Spears was prepping the release of her album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> in an <a href="/news/articles/1659522/britney-spears-plastic-surgery-out-magazine.jhtml">interview with <i>Out</i> magazine</a>, she noted that she truly admires her friend. "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer," she said when asked whose career she most would want to emulate. </P><P> </P><P>As Madonna preps the release of <i>MDNA</i> in March, Spears is also the topic of conversation in a recent interview with her. When asked by ABC News what it was like to smooch the pop princess, she commented, "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she said, clarifying that she wouldn't do it again. "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." </P><P> </P><P>Well, perhaps a kiss would be "reductive" (her word, not ours), but it seems given the love that Madge and Spears fans have for the two pop stars, they wouldn't mind them cooking up some musical magic. </P><P>The track, "Girls Gone Wild," was teased in a megamix that dropped last week and it certainly feels like it would lend itself to both Madonna and Brit's musical sensibilities: It's fist-pumpingly dance-y, sexy and all about going out and having a good time, with Madge proclaiming, "Girls, they just want to have some fun/ Get fired up like a smoking gun/ On the floor till the daylight comes/ Girls, they just want to have some fun." </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:728690/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D728690%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A728690%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P><i>What would you think of a new Britney Spears/ Madonna collabo? Leave your comment below!</i></p>

With a Little Luck: A Novel
My good friend Caprice Crane's new book, With a Little Luck, is out today. Yay, Caprice!
It's gotten great reviews:
"Crane is one of the funniest writers of popular fiction around. The dialog (inner and outer) is laugh-out-loud, snort-inducing hilarious . . . Readers will want to cross their fingers and spit while throwing salt over their shoulders if it helps Berry reach her dreams. Highly recommended."
—Library Journal
"Fans of Stacy Ballis and Cara Lockwood will appreciate Crane's effortlessly funny style, which is often attempted in popular fiction but is rarely this well executed...Lighthearted and charmingly honest."
—Booklist
"[A] satisfying romantic comedy...[with] real character growth."
—Kirkus Reviews
And even better blurbs:
"Romantic, poignant and funny—this book is a lucky find for lit fans. Caprice Crane is a nimble and gifted storyteller."
—Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno
"A hilarious romp that oozes charm and giddy fun. Caprice Crane is a true talent."
—Molly Jong-Fast, author of The Social Climber's Handbook
"Witty, fast-paced, and sheer fun. Caprice Crane is a master of dialogue. Half the time I was reading this book I was smiling, which made me look like a crazy person on the subway."
—Jancee Dunn, author of Don’t You Forget About Me and Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?
"Absolutely charming and hilarious."
—Missy Peregrym, star of the movie Stick It and ABC's Rookie Blue
"With a Little Luck scores in humor, head, and heart. In other words, it’s a perfect trifecta."
—Karyn Bosnak, author of 20 Times a Lady (soon to be the major motion picture What's Your Number?)
(Omg, who is that last fantastic blurber?) (I meant every word of it.)
And most importantly, she has the cutest dog ever (who likes to video chat with Bev):
Anyway, check it out, buy it—it's fantastic!
