Can you hear that? It's the final hours of 2011 winding down, getting ready for a bright and shiny 2012. And what better way to welcome the new year than with another round of celebrity New Year's resolutions?
MTV News recently sought out a few of our favorite movers and shakers, including Mac Miller, Florence Welch and the boys of Blink-182, to see what they're resolving to achieve next year.
"I make resolutions every five minutes and then I never stick to them," Welch admitted.
"My New Year's resolution is to be more patient and observant," said 2011 Hottest Breakthrough MC nominee Roscoe Dash. "I feel like if you're patient, you're going to be more observant anyway because you've got nothing but time on your hands."
"[I resolve] to have more fun, gain some weight and I want to make a difference in the world. I'm shaving my head next year for charity," 2011 VMA House Artist Jessie J revealed. "I just want to bring more good [to the world]."
Fellow Hottest Breakthrough MC nominee French Montana vowed to keep on keepin' on. "Definitely not to change," he said of his resolution. "Everything I've been doing has been working so far, so definitely not to change."
"My New Year's resolution is to be healthier in every aspect of my life," Mac Miller said with a smile.
We're impressed by all the warm and fuzzy do-good-esque commitments, but Tom Delonge of Blink 182 gets special commendation for his specificity and honesty.
"I want to get another tattoo," Delonge announced. "But I need to exercise before I get it because I want to be able to show it off and look really awesome. It's mostly on my genital area," he joked. "No, no, I want to do a back piece."
"Travis, do you have a New Year's resolution?" Blink 182 frontman Mark Hoppus asked his bandmate Travis Barker. "I'm down with Tom's," Barker said, prompting Hoppus to also throw his support behind Delonge.
"Our New Year's resolution is for Tom to get a back piece," he said.
Before making those resolutions a reality, many celebrities will be out and about on New Year's Eve looking to break loose at a number of big New Year's parties. And MTV will also be getting in on the fun during "NYE in NYC 2012," which will feature Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Mac Miller and more. The show airs live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday from Times Square, where the famous ball drops.

Singer says people keep trying to give her hot sauce and pickles.
By
Root Beer, chicken wings, pickle juice, donuts, mac and cheese. Pregnant women have all kinds of odd cravings, but in an interview slated to air on Friday night on "20/20," Beyoncé told interviewer Katie Couric that she hasn't had those typical late-night urges during her pregnancy. "Not really anything crazy," B told Couric. "I've read that I like ketchup on everything," she added, saying that the rumor is not true. And when Couric tried to confirm other Internet whispers about what the singer is allegedly making hubby Jay-Z rush out to the corner bodega for at 2 in the morning, Beyoncé said the wildest one is also not true.
"I also read that you like ice cream with hot chili sauce," Couric said. "Yeah, that's very strange," responded Beyoncé, who was dressed in flowing purple pants with a white pattern, a black leather jacket and black pregnancy top with a subtle blue design. "Is that true?" Couric pressed. "No it is not. I was on a plane and the flight attendant came and was like, 'I have your hot sauce and pickles and bananas.' I was like, 'That is absolutely disgusting, what are you doing?' He's like, 'I read it on the Internet.' " When Couric asked the question everyone wants to know, whether she should get the singer a pink or blue baby gift, Beyoncé smiled and put her finger up to her mouth and gave a coy, "hmmm." In another segment, Couric and Beyoncé take a stroll past New York's Roseland Ballroom, where the pop icon played the four shows earlier this year that became the subject of her just-released "Live at Roseland" DVD . "When I was here it was raining and there were thousands of people in their coats and umbrellas waiting outside for hours," she said of the summertime shows. "Which always feels a little overwhelming because I'm like, 'I hope I give them enough.' But everyone had a great time."

'I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be,' singer says.
By Chris Harris
Former SoundgardenSoundgarden and AudioslaveAudioslave frontman Chris CornellChris Cornell has spoken out for the first time about rumors that he's been asked to fill in for Robert PlantRobert Plant on a proposed Led ZeppelinLed Zeppelin reunion tour. The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham. Cornell has been mentioned — along with Foo FightersFoo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, former Van HalenVan Halen frontman Sammy HagarSammy Hagar, White StripesWhite Stripes mastermind Jack White and Alter BridgeAlter Bridge's Myles Kennedy — as a potential Plant fill-in. Plant has already said that he wouldn't take part in the tour.
"I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be," Cornell told MTV News. "I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour." Cornell's denial comes just a day after AerosmithAerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford confirmed reports that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. "They did it for fun," Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show "Todd N Tyler Radio Empire." "I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert." Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played a single reunion set last year at London's O2 Arena. Twisted SisterTwisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant. According to Snider, the rest of the band told Plant, " 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' " "And he can sing the sh-- out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in." In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there." But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming TimbalandTimbaland-produced solo LP, Scream, will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider Scream something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way. "It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] Euphoria Morning, my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of Rage Against the MachineRage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like. "It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."

From 'Harry Potter' to 'Drive,' MTV News mourns — and praises — the year's best fictional deaths.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Photo: Warner Bros
It is traditional at the end of the year to look back on those we have lost in Hollywood. Usually this means a poignant montage of actors, actresses and crew members during the Academy Awards, but it should also be noted that plenty of fictional passings occurred in 2011 as well.
They may have been memorable, sad, thrilling or even funny, but each movie death meant something, and if we were to look back on the characters that passed away this year, these are the five that would get the biggest applause.
It should noted that this article contains nothing but spoilers.
Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon in "X-Men: First Class")
All it took was a coin through the skull to remind us why Kevin Bacon should be in more movies. His character, Sebastian Shaw, lived large and in style, choosing a submarine as his method of world travel and double-breasted suits as his villainous costume. When Magneto finally met up with him to serve up some revenge extra cold, Shaw ate it in one of the most memorable scenes of 2011.
Fred Weasley (James Phelps in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2")
Many characters didn't live to see the end of the Battle of Hogwarts, but none hurt as much as the demise of one-half of the ginger-haired duo. George may have lost an ear in Part 1, but he lost a twin brother during the series finale, and we were there with him. At the very least, we can all remember the fun times we had together and rest assured that there is still one genetically identical person walking Diagon Alley.
Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow in "Contagion")
The look of terror on Paltrow's face from the trailer may rank among some of the year's most horrifying movie images. Beth Emhoff's death early in the film starts the chain reaction that sets the film's wheels in motion, but none of the millions of deaths caused by the virus are shown with as much intimacy. She may have been patient zero, but she'll always be #1 in our hearts.
Shannon (Bryan Cranston in "Drive")
Bryan Cranston's Shannon didn't have much time to accept his fate, and neither did we. Before we knew it, Bernie Rose (played by Albert Brooks) had declared it "over." Even the toughest of moviegoers had to flinch at the sight of the razor blade cutting through the neighborly mechanic's arm. Shannon added both comic relief and charm to a movie that benefitted so greatly because of it.
Planet Earth in "The Tree of Life" and "Melancholia"
The character we're all closest with bit the dust not once but twice this year at the movies. It's never an easy thing, watching the planet you've grown up on destroyed — just ask Princess Leia. But never has the destruction of our home world been shown with as much stunning cinematography as it was in mouth of these art house hits.

Teenager who posted YouTube videos about his heart condition died on Christmas Day.
By Andrea Duncan-Mao
Kid Cudi wrote on his blog that he "broke down" over the death of Ben Breedlove, an 18-year-old fan from Austin, Texas, who suffered a fatal heart attack on Christmas Day.
Cudi heard about Breedlove after a pair of YouTube videos the fan made went viral before his death. In the videos, Breedlove silently holds up cards that tell the story of living with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a disease that causes the heart muscles to enlarge, making it difficult to pump blood properly. He says he "cheated death" three times: the most recent time in early December when EMTs used shock pads on his chest after his heart stopped. He described a vision of being in a white room and being with his "favorite rapper, Kid Cudi" wearing white suits and feeling "happy and peaceful" and he "couldn't stop smiling." He ended his videos with a card that read "Do you believe in God and angels? I do."
After watching the videos, Kid Cudi wrote: "I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, I am to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do."
Cudi went on to say, "To Ben's family, you raised a real hero, he's definitely mine. You have my love."
Breedlove's parents released an obituary in the Austin American-Statesman on Thursday (December 29) referencing the videos and writing, "Now the world has come to know our Ben. He was a genius at using the Internet to reach and influence his peers. ... In the weeks prior to his death, he had faced some scary situations with his health, but had been given an amazing gift that he was determined to share; first with us, his family, and then, not surprisingly (and generously) with his YouTube audience."

They've inspired us in 2011 but only one can be the Woman of the Year! Find out who gets top honors.
The couple started dating in 2009 while Trawick was still Britney's agent.

Months ago, rumors began circulating that Britney Spears and longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick were going to tie the knot. And on Friday (December 16), sources close to the pair and a mysterious tweet from the star herself confirmed that the couple is engaged.
Trawick had already been working with the star as her agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment when they began dating in 2009. They went public with their romance when they showed up hand-in-hand to the 2010 Grammy Awards. That May, the two decided to separate their business and personal relationships, and it was confirmed that Trawick would no longer be representing Spears. The pair have always been pretty low-key. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest this March, the pop star opened up about their life together. "We're really normal," she said. "We just like to watch movies; we work out a lot; we take walks." In May, Spears told Harper's Bazaar, "I've thought about both [marriage and kids]," saying that tying the knot with Trawick could happen "if the timing was right." And in an interview with Us Weekly in April, Spears gushed about life with Trawick. "We have such a great time together! He makes me laugh, and we are so comfortable being ourselves," she said. "Maybe [I'll marry again]. Never say never!"
In August, Spears and Trawick walked the red carpet at the 2011 MTV VMAs, and Britney later thanked Trawick when she took the stage to accept her Moonman for Best Pop Video for "Till the World Ends." While the two have remained relatively private, they gave fans a peek at their personal life when they played the lead roles in Britney's "Criminal" video. The video focuses on a fictional love affair between their characters, who go on a crime spree that leads to a steamy encounter. Director Chris Marrs Piliero said Trawick "killed it." This will be Britney's third marriage. She was married to Jason Alexander for 55 hours in 2004. Later that year, she married back-up dancer Kevin Federline; the two divorced in 2006. Federline and Spears have two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston. A rep for the singer has yet to confirm the news of this latest engagement to MTV News. Send your well-wishes to Britney and Jason in the comments.

'Don't be the first one on the dance floor,' Zac Efron tells MTV News.
By Christina Garibaldi
New Year's Eve is a night of celebration with family and friends, but it can also be one of the most-stressful nights of the year. Tough questions must be answered about what to do and what to wear in order to have a memorable end to the year.
Well, we at MTV News can't give you those answers, but with help from the stars of this year's box office hit "New Year's Eve," we can tell you what not to do in order to avoid disaster as you ring in 2012.
"[Don't] plan an important evening," Jessica Biel told us at the New York City premiere of "New Year's Eve." "Don't do that, because it's too much pressure. If you're planning on having the best night of the year, you will have the worst night of the year. Do nothing, and then see what happens."
And it seems like co-star Abigail Breslin agrees that you can't plan to have the perfect night. "[Don't] put too much pressure on it; just let things happen, kind of like fate," Breslin said. "Just let things go how they're meant to go."
Director Garry Marshall has some advice for all those girls who are waiting for their New Year's kiss: "Don't wear a lot of lipstick, because with a little luck, they're gonna kiss you, and you may kiss more than one guy!" Marshall said, laughing.
If your plans entail heading out on the town, make sure you take Zac Efron's advice before you bust out those dance moves. "Don't be the first one on the dance floor — wait," Efron said. "Let two people get out there, and then go get a circle going, then get it going, pop it out, Michael Jackson moves."
Still haven't figured out your New Year's plans? Check out MTV's "NYE in NYC 2012" airing live at 11 p.m. ET/PT (10 Central) Saturday from Times Square. The event will be hosted by Demi Lovato and Tyler Posey with performances by Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole and Jason Derülo.

Decemberists and Civil Wars also on the disc.

The soundtrack to "The Hunger Games" will feature a bumper crop of new and unreleased songs by Taylor Swift, the Arcade Fire and the Decemberists.
The album will be produced by Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett and released before the movie hits theaters on March 23. Burnett and the group the Civil Wars got together to write an original tune for the CD with Swift, the first single, "Safe and Sound," which was released to iTunes on December 23. The tune shot to #1 on the iTunes singles list within 24 hours of release.
Also serving up fresh tracks are the Arcade Fire, who collaborated with Burnett on "Horn of Plenty," and the Decemberists, who've offered up the original song "One Engine." The rest of the lineup has not been released, but according to a press release the soundtrack will feature all new songs based on themes that figure into the movie's storyline.
Oscar-winning composer Danny Elfman recently exited the film, citing scheduling issues as he works to finish up the music for "Dark Shadows" and "Men in Black 3." He was replaced by James Newton Howard, who is responsible for dozens of famous scores, including "Batman Begins."
Inspired by the best-selling young-adult novel by Suzanne Collins, "The Hunger Games" follows the path of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is chosen to compete in a vicious televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, as well as Woody Harrelson and rocker Lenny Kravitz.
Lawrence will not only star in the movie, but she will also lend her vocals to the soundtrack. Producer Burnett had high praise for her singing, telling MTV it was "beautiful. She did great. She's singing great. Killer actor too."
Fans are totally geeked about the new big-screen adaptation that could be the next-generation "Twilight" series, which is why we put together our list of the top 10 "Games" moments of 2011.

From 'guyliner' to American delicacies like Uncrustables, Kathy Griffin, Mike Posner and more tell us what they'd get Will and Kate.

What kind of wedding gift do you give the royal couple who has everything? The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is on Friday (April 29), so MTV News reached out to some of our favorite Hollywood celebrities — from Ke$ha to Adam Lambert. Fortunately, they had some solid ideas!
"I haven't met them, so it would be kind of awkward," the "Tik Tok" singer admitted to MTV News. "I might paint them something. Maybe I'll paint them a guitar." Like Ke$ha, other celebs had suggestions that were from the heart, even if they weren't the most practical. "I will go out on a limb and say these two individuals maybe haven't had Uncrustables before in their life. I would get them a strawberry Uncrustable," Mike Posner said about the pastry. David Cook followed up on the all-American food idea. "I feel like they have everything except maybe they probably don't have an Applebee's gift card. I'll go [with an] Applebee's gift card," the "American Idol" alum said. Other stars said they'd gift the British prince and soon-to-be-princess with an item they were personally best known for. "I'd probably buy William some eyeliner," Lambert said. "He could do that, he could rock that look. I think." Ne-Yo was more empathetic, saying he would give gifts that could help shield them from photographers and blend in with everyday people. "Three years' supply of sunglasses. Yeah, put them on. A bunch of baseball caps, throw those on, and try to move around like regular people," the singer said. "I can't imagine what it would be like having to live under that big of a magnifying glass your whole life ... and fake mustaches, that's what I'd give them." Brooke Burke went the more traditional route, saying she would get Will and Kate a journal to record the big event. "I would ask them to really take the time to write down thoughts and phrases and wishes," Burke said. "And not really to lose sight of how they feel about each other now and to really hold on to that feeling." Kathy Griffin had good intentions but the comedian couldn't resist a puke joke. "If I had to get the royal couple a gift, I would get them the Royal Couple Vomit Bag, which someone sent me a photo of," Griffin told us. "So you can actually buy vomit bags with their image on it, and I think that that is an honor and I hope that they see it as such." What would you give to William and Kate? Share your ideas in the comments section!

'I was definitely thinking, 'Everyone knows, everyone can see,' ' B says of hiding bump before MTV VMA reveal.

Before she announced her pregnancy to the entire world at the 2011 Video Music Awards, Beyoncé was worried that everyone would figure out her secret ... after all, it was getting rather difficult to hide that baby bump.
"The whole time, I was definitely thinking, 'Everyone knows, everyone can see,' " B told Billboard.com before the screening of her new "Live at Roseland" concert film on Sunday in New York. She was especially sure that she'd been found out after putting on the shows that make up that film — her four-night stand at New York City's Roseland Ballroom in August — when she was very much with child and, by her own account, had a difficult time performing with her usual ferocity. "When you're pregnant, it's a little bit harder to breathe," she said, "so it was hard doing all the choreography and singing at the same time." Of course, watching clips from the film — when a perfectly locked-in B performed a medley of hits while backed by a cracking, all-female backing band — you wouldn't know it. But now that she's revealed her pregnancy to the world, Beyoncé joked that "Roseland" will serve another purpose altogether ... namely, giving her and Jay-Z's child (who just might be a girl) a chance to say "I can't believe I was in that belly!" Beyoncé's "Live at Roseland" film made its world premiere Monday (November 21) online, and is available for purchase at Walmart and on the Net. She can also be heard on a duet with Mary J. Blige on "Love a Woman," a standout track on Blige's just-released My Life II ... The Journey Continues, Act I.

She really nailed it, turned her life way around, and look — now with a good man :)" Other fans gushed, while Zakir Khan wrote simply on Facebook, "Best of luck." On Twitter, @Elina_BS made a Twitpic card for the singer wishing her and Jason well. Britney Spears spent the weekend celebrating her engagement to Jason Trawick in Las Vegas with friends and family. On Friday, hours after the news of their impending marriage was confirmed, the singer took to her Facebook page to make it official, changing her relationship status to "engaged."
She also shared with her fans on Twitter just how excited she is to be tying the knot with longtime boyfriend Trawick. "Still glowing!" she wrote. "About to jump on a plane to Planet Hollywood in Vegas. Throwing a Bday Party for Jason at Chateau Night Club. So fun. Xxoo. And celebrate they did. People.com reported that the couple and her two sons checked into Planet Hollywood before making their first public appearance since the news broke. Spears rocked not only a body-hugging Hervé Léger bandage dress, but also her Neil Lane engagement ring. The couple shared dinner and dancing at two Sin City hotspots, Sugar Factory's Chocolate Lounge and Paris' Chateau Nightclub. "Tonight was one of the most magical nights of my life," she later wrote on Twitter. "Such an amazing time with my new fiance and our closest friends and family. #Blessed" While Spears was celebrating, her ex-husband Kevin Federline sent out his well-wishes. "I'm really happy for her — I think he's a great guy," he told TV Week magazine while filming the reality show "Excess Baggage" in Australia. "She's happy; she's doing really well. I want to say she's in a good place. I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here, both of us have been busy with her being on tour, but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good. It's a good step in the right direction. I'm totally happy for her." And Federline doesn't seem to have any hard feelings toward Trawick. "He's a really good guy, I've heard a lot about him," he added. "I've spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him [and] her family loves him."
